CNG storage and pressure reduction. One trailer. Two sizes. NuBlu Energy’s Virtual Pipeline Trailers carry CNG to sites where pipeline gas isn’t available. Two configurations: the bumper-pull VPT-64 for light-duty and remote sites, and the tractor-pulled VPT-128 for higher-volume continuous delivery. Both ship with integrated 2-stage pressure reduction and a catalytic heater.
Overview NuBlu’s VPT family delivers CNG to sites where running pipeline isn’t available or isn’t economical. Type IV composite cylinders hold gas at 4,000 psig. An integrated 2-stage onboard pressure reduction system, fed through a thermostatically controlled catalytic heater, drops trailer pressure to a user-set outlet between 5 and 50 psig – ready to feed the customer’s downstream system.
The VPT-64 is bumper-pullable behind a standard pickup. The VPT-128 doubles the storage on a DOT highway-rated tractor trailer for routes where the smaller unit would mean too many trips.
• Storage Capacity VPT-64 – 64,000 SCF @ 4,000 psig
• Storage Capacity VPT-128 -1 28,000 SCF @ 4,000 psig
• Cylinder Type – Type IV composite
• Operating Pressure – 200 to 4,000 psig
• Process Temperature – -40 °F to 160 °F
• Fill Ports – 1″ CNG quick-connect or NGV1
• Onboard PRS – 2-stage pressure regulation
• PRS Inlet Pressure – 200 to 3,600 psig
• PRS Outlet Pressure – 5 to 50 psig (Fisher 627BM); user-set
• Design Flow Rate – 1 to 15 MSCF/hr
• Process Heater – Catalytic, thermostatically controlled
• Discharge Connection – 3″ 150# flanged
• Trailer Type VPT-64 – Bumper-pull, deck-over
• Trailer Type VPT-128 – Tractor-pulled, DOT highway-rated
• Coupler VPT-64 – Pintle hitch
• Coupler VPT-128 – Fifth-wheel kingpin
• GVWR VPT-64 – 16,000 lbs
• GVWR VPT-128 – Class 8 trailer (per spec)
• Deck Size – 20 ft x 8 ft
• Safety – Onboard thermal reliefs and PSVs
• Design Standards – ASME Sect. VIII Div. 1, B31.3, NEC, NFPA
Outlet pressure setpoint, PSV settings, fill port count, and discharge configuration are tuned to the application. Contact engineering for a sized proposal.
Storage and PRS in One Trailer No separate pressure reduction skid to specify, permit, or move between sites. Storage and regulation are integrated and FAT-tested as one unit.
Type IV Composite Cylinders Lighter than steel, 4,000 psig rated, with built-in thermal reliefs. Lower trailer tare weight means more gas, less wasted GVWR.
Catalytic Process Heater Flame-free heating handles the temperature drop from CNG decompression and keeps outlet gas above 30 °F across the operating window. No open flame, no separate fuel hookup, no permitting headache.
2-Stage Pressure Regulation Primary regulator drops trailer pressure to an intermediate level into a process accumulator that dampens pressure swings. A final-stage regulator delivers an outlet pressure within +/- 10% of setpoint.
Built and Tested In-Shop Final assembly, FAT, valve and PSV verification, and PRS commissioning happen in our shop. Issues get caught in the shop, not on your site.
Pairs with the PRS-G and PRS-C Series For higher-flow sites where the trailer’s onboard PRS isn’t sized to deliver, the VPT family pairs with NuBlu’s standalone PRS packages (PRS-G8000, PRS-G4000, PRS-G2000, PRS-G750, PRS-C720, PRS-C360).
Which One Fits Your Site
Choose the VPT-64 if
• Site demand is intermittent or seasonal
• You want to move trailers behind a standard pickup
• Permitting and parking footprint need to stay small
• Trailer-swap frequency isn’t a major cost driver
Choose the VPT-128 if
• Site demand is continuous or high-volume
• You want to cut delivery trips per week
• DOT highway operation behind a Class 8 tractor is in scope
• Lower delivery cost per MCF matters more than mobility
Typical Applications
• Remote site fuel gas supply where pipeline access is limited
• Mobile and temporary power generation
• Drilling and completions support
• Pipeline integrity work and pipeline pack-up
• Construction site fuel gas
• Peak shaving and standby gas service
• Stranded gas monetization and remote industrial loads
What’s Included
• Trailer with Type IV composite CNG cylinders
• CNG quick-connect fill ports (NGV1)
• Integrated 2-stage pressure reduction system
• Thermostatically controlled catalytic process heater
• PSVs and onboard cylinder thermal reliefs
• Flanged discharge connection
• Operating manual, FAT package, and recommended spare parts list
Engineering and Aftermarket Support
Every VPT ships with a complete operating manual, FAT documentation, and recommended spares list. Critical wear items – regulator trims, PSV cartridges, and instrumentation – are stocked at our shop for fast response.
Field service, troubleshooting, and remote support are handled by the same team that designed and built the trailer.
